Introduction

Life is beautiful! But various cruel incidents of life make our heart and our selves hopeless and dead. Some people cannot bear the pain of these misfortune events that life show to us and ultimately they want an escape from facing all this by choosing a way which not only harms others but also harmful for their own self. Such people choose a path of wrong doings and indulge in activities that are an offense of criminal laws, rules and regulation. Such people can enjoy by getting benefits from these activities of a criminal offense for a short time but eventually they end up spending some part or the whole life in prison in punishment. Such people not only invite problems for their own self but they also create troubles to others. In order to eradicate crimes from the society the role of police is indispensable. Police in very city and area makes its effort so that they can provide security and protection to the public. In order to provide protection to the public and to perform their duties in an effective way they adopt new procedures and methodologies and systems. One of the inventions in this regard is of CompStat. The aim and objective of this paper is to talk about this invention of CompStat from variegated perspective.

CompStat is the abbreviation of computer statistics or comparative statistics. It is the name given to a process by the Police Department of New York, and has since been replicated in many other police departments. CompStat is a management tool created for police departments, similar to Six Sigma or TQM , and not a computer system or a file package, but is similar to the database of the British police, which serves police forces. CompStat is a dynamic approach that helps in reducing crime, improving the quality of life and management of staff and resources. The system is also used in other major cities, including Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Austin. In Canada, the CompStat system is currently used by the Vancouver Police Department. CompStat was created by Jack Maple when he was a traffic policeman (Alfredo, 2006). CompStat involves computerized registry, criminal data analysis and exchange of ideas between representatives in weekly meetings to the top management of the police, investigators and police officers patrolling the streets.
