CHAPTER 01: INTRODUCTION
Background of the Research
This project is about accounts manipulations in the financial statements and how does the manipulated data leads to corporate failure leading to either loss of a company`s revenue or its closure and how to resolve the corporate failure problem. In this topic special emphasis will be made with respect to the ENRON Corporation an energy trading, natural gas, and electric utilities company based in Houston, Texas, U.S. It was once predicted to dominate the trading in communications, power and weather securities in US market. An instead fraudulent accounting practice employed by companies executives within the company led to biggest corporate scandal in the history and became emblematic of institutionalized and well planned international corporate fraud, leading to its bankruptcy and has become a symbol of modern corporate crime leading to the decline of the company.
Aims and objectives of the Research
Before starting on the course of the research, a researcher has to decide upon the aims and objectives of the research study, which would help the researcher in conducting the research. The aims and objectives act like a guide for the researcher through which the researcher can deduce research questions. The aims and objectives of this research study are as follows.
Analyzing the performance of the companies by using financial ratios, Studying the impact of accounts manipulation on financial statement analysis and how such unethical accounting practices leads to closure of companies and erroneous financial analysis with special focus on the Enron collapse as a case study.
Making using of the calculated ratios and then comparing and contrasting theoretical model with respect to corporate failure and reality, commenting on how successful the 2-3 models which have been compared are in terms of predicting corporate failure.
Suggesting a model which would help prevent corporate failure, in order to build a successful business.
Research Questions
The research questions act like a guiding tool for a researcher in the duration of a research. A researcher devises the research questions from the aims and objectives of the research and; therefore, in the end, it helps the researcher in meeting its aims and objectives of the ...
