Compare & Contrast Essay

The good of the people and the good of the environment have been two elements that have presented significant complication through history. This complication is mainly because of the fact that the two areas tend to come into conflict and the approach that man has developed towards life tends to conflict with the good of the environment. In this regard, it is imperative to address this issue in a modern day perspective. The purpose of this discussion is to refrain from adding new literature into the volume of literature that is already present. Instead, this discussion will attempt to bring the debate closer to a conclusion by evaluating two differing viewpoints on the debate. In order to do so, the discussion will compare and contrast two essays that pertain to the subject. One essay is Prayer Dogs by Terry Tempest Williams, while the second essay is Killing Wolves by Sherry Simpson. Both these essays address issues that pertain to the preservation of wildlife in comparison to the threat that untamed wildlife poses to the security of society. As a result, these two essays can be considered to be of critical relevance since they essentially represent two differing schools of thought.

In this paper we will attempt to present a discussion that will compare and contrast two differing viewpoints. The discussion will present an in depth analysis of these two viewpoints. The discussion will also consider the rationale behind the arguments presented by the two authors (Martínez-Espiñeira & Lars 2009). The purpose of the discussion is to evaluate the arguments of two authors presenting differing viewpoints. The subject of the evaluation is the question that asks about the approach that should be followed towards the course of environmental policy when the good of the people and the good of the environment begin to conflict.

Terry Tempest Williams is an American author, naturalist and environmental activist. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, the desert landscape. Furthermore, she was raised in has significantly influenced her writing, much of which concerns or is set in the deserts of the American West.

Terry Tempest Williams presents a convincing argument when considered with regard to the fact that Terry Tempest Williams riddles her arguments with examples of events that took place in real life. To Terry Tempest Williams, the most important thing in the world is human life (De Laporte, Alfons & Yang 2010). In addition, Terry Tempest Williams also considers it imperative for modern day man to strike a balance between the preservation of social wellbeing and environmental preservation. It is important to note that by presenting examples that border on the extreme, Terry Tempest Williams is actually attempting to bring society away from its extremist ways.
