Community Learning Environment

Introduction

Learning is a process whereby cognitive frameworks or behaviour changes occur as a result of new information, knowledge, and experiences. The various levels at which learning happens are individual, organizational, governmental, and even societal. Community catalyses deep learning and should be an essential concern while planning learning spaces, physically and virtually. Learning in any kind of community is always helpful in several ways. It not just gives a student or any individual the freedom of expressing his or her thoughts in a more progressive way but also it develops such an environment that it also makes it easier for the students to learn with the support of the community and also its members. In fact, a number of learning communities in different institutes can also be created within communities as well in order to build a constructive learning environment.

Community learning no matter in what way is always helpful. This is due the reason why by building community even in classrooms for the sake of formulating healthy learning environment means more positive practice for teachers and students and even among different kinds of students in any learning institute as well (Wade, 1997, p.4-7). An approach wherein students collaborate to acquire what features of a foreign language they are keen on to learn is Community language learning. In CLL, the role of a teacher is as a counselor and a paraphraser, whereas the learner works as a collaborator, although sometimes this role can be changed. Community Language Learning is the most responsive technique with respect to its understanding to communicative intent of learner. (Al-Humaidi, 2009, p. 4) Language learning, within the context of community learning environment, is a more suitable way to practice fluency and grasp over a desired language. This paper is aimed to explore evaluation of English language learning within a community learning environment in an organisation. This paper will also analyse the approaches used within my organisation in relation to English learning in addition to the attitudes of students about language learning, their motivations for learning, and their beliefs about language learning. Suggestions will also be provided at the end regarding what strategy should my organisation use to enhance practice corresponding to learning and assessment?

Though in form and context, learning communities vary, some fundamental core beliefs and values are shared by them. Rooted in the inspiration that educators can have learning from each other, an environment is created and maintained by learning communities that promotes collaboration, ...
