Abstract

The Knightdale community is located in North Carolina in Wake County. It is a great community with total community participation and involvement by the people. The community has a strong leadership in the form of community administration or the local government. It also has very high education levels and availability of education, including County public schools. The economic data available on the community is very limited. Still, the community is diverse but does not show mechanisms of oppression or discrimination. Also, it exhibits high cohesion among the community members. All the essential services are available in the community. Knightdale also has a thriving business environment. Finally, it lacks certain advantages that are available in global cities. It also has a good social service provision while the public infrastructure and public development projects are constantly developing the community. The problems of homelessness and other welfare services are provided by the state of North Carolina. In addition, all the community services are provided, such as policing, and the community is being operated by churches and other essential organizations.

Introduction

The community selected for community immersion, that involves total involvement in the community (Leon, 2000), is Knightdale, a small town in North Carolina. This community, the small town of Knightdale, is located on the eastern edge of Raleigh, the capital city of the state. Furthermore, it falls in the Eastern Wake County (Knightdale, 2008). The community was named after Henry Haywood Knight who was a farmer and a businessman. The latitude of Knightdale is 35.787N and the longitude is -78.48W. The time zone of Knightdale is Eastern Time Zone. On the other hand, its elevation is 315 feet (Podunk, 2012). Popular neighborhoods in Knightdale are Emerald Pointe and Churchill (Trulia, 2012). It is situated in the Wake County which forms part of the Raleigh-Cary metro area. The county was named after Margaret Wake, who was wife of the governor of Wake County (Podunk, 2012).

Knightdale is the youngest incorporated municipality in Wake County. About 200 years ago it was the biggest town in North Carolina and was the candidate to become the capital of North Carolina. However, Joel Lane, who was an eminent planter and tavern operator, developed his estate which became the capital, which is Raleigh. Raleigh is located to the West of Neuse River. After the civil war ended, many farmers bought the land in Knightdale and started cultivating tobacco as the major crop. The development of the railroad in 1904 facilitated the development of the community. Thereafter, Knightdale developed and flourished with normal business occurring in the small town. However, a fire in 1940 gutted most of the business in Knightdale. After 1990, Knightdale experienced an average ten percent growth in population each year. Today, Knightdale has a partnership with Raleigh and has its own water system and county schooling system. The administration makes the town healthy, vibrant and safe (Johnson, 2009).
