The Virginia Colony is also known as the Colony of Virginia was the colony of English in the North America. It is also known as the Province of Virginia and sometimes as the Colony and Dominion of Virginia. This colony existed temporarily during the 16th century and from 1607 to the American Revolution. After 1707, it remained as a British Colony. In the 17th century, on the east coast of the North America there was an English settlement known as the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
It was located in New England that is situated around the current cities of Boston and Salem. There are various differences and similarities between the Massachusetts Bay colony and the Virginia colony. The main areas are of social structure, objectives, demographics, economy and religion.

In the early 17th century, majority of the English colonists that approached to the Virginia colony were young single men in the age of about twenty. In their consideration, the Virginia Colony was a location where they can earn rapid profit before their return to the home town. In the Virginia colony some colonists have an intention of staying more than a few years. This approach is in jagged contrast to the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
In the Massachusetts Bay Colony, most of the communities were composed of family units. In America, the Colonial New Englanders came with anticipation that this colony will be their enduring home. Therefore, the colonists in the Massachusetts Bay Colony bring their children and wives. The development of the colonies is well explained by the demographics (Browne, 2003).
