Introduction

Clinical psychology can be defined as the combination of science, theory and the clinical comprehension which intends to give a clear picture, to take the necessary steps which would prove fruitful from growing it any further and curing those individuals who are a victim of stress or any mental disorder or mental illness. However, necessary steps for it involve psychological evaluation and psychotherapy. There are numerous psychologists who tend to indulge in the process of consultation, research or teaching n order to cater to the disease mentioned above. There are many countries along with the United States of America where Clinical psychology counted among the professions dealing with mental health.

History & Evolution

Clinical psychology draws its roots from year 1896, where it considered having begun with the opening of the first psychological clinic, and that too in the University of Pennsylvania under the belt of the person knows as Lighter Witmer. The quarter of the preceding century in the context of this paper focuses mainly on the psychological evaluations and thus ignored the section which dealt with its treatment. However, this was only temporary, and the event of World War 2 changed it completely as the demands for such the clinics rose due to the disastrous effect it had on the minds of the people. At that time, when Clinical psychology saw its rise tow models were in place and gave the license to either Ph.D. scientists Psy.D, practitioners to use this section of the mental health to cure them (Plante,2011). After going through the transformation Clinical psychology now considered as the mother of all the professions related to mental health. Today Clinical psychology has stretched itself onto various branches, which involve the, disciplines of diagnosing cognitive illness, psychological testing, and psychotherapy. They normally get to train themselves and others who are interested to serve the humanity under this discipline, those fundamental branches are humanistic, behavior therapy, psychodynamic and systems or family therapy (Perkins, 2004).

Research in every field is necessary and thus the importance of the Research rises in the field of psychology and especially clinical psychology. Research tends to explore the reasons and rationale behind the behaviors and actions as depicted by different individuals in different times under different circumstances. As the science, has made considerable progress it has been able to transfer some part of it in the field of Clinical Psychology. Research plays a very vital role especially in Clinical psychology because it helps to prove or disapprove the theories regarding their nature as either being true or false. Without the existence, of Research, the discipline of Clinical psychology would have been incomplete and in no way would have been able to make the progress which it had.
