Introduction

Vision renders environmental information without the need for other senses of touch, taste and smell. A major part of the cerebral cortex contributes in the visual processes, and the development of visual perception from infancy to childhood takes place. The sensory systems of infants are present at the time of birth to process perceptual information from their bodies and external environment, although the system functions in a more limited range than later on in infancy (Hertenstein, et al, 2002, pp. 207).
