"Child abuse" can be characterized as initiating or allowing any hurtful or attack communicate on a child's body; and, any connection or transaction of any kind which humiliates, shames, or frightens the child. Some progeny development professionals proceed a bit farther, and characterize progeny misuse as any proceed or omission, which falls short to nurture or in the upbringing of the children.
Child Abuse and Society
Daily several children are exploited and become the subject of abuse. The vulnerability of children makes them an easy target to strangers and even their family members. Child abuse has become a growing concern for every country. It is not just a family or an individual's problem; it is a problem for the entire world. Abuse is an ongoing process, if a child is abused, he is likely to abuse his/her own children when he grows up, unless he acquires proper counseling, the process of abuse goes on and on. It is a never- ending process which is why it is important to stop this monstrous crime. Many articles, NGOs and government campaigns have started during the past years to spread awareness and educate people about this issue (Hoyano & Keenan, 2007).
The following are the consequences, researchers began to look for: Shaken baby syndrome: shaken baby is a very common types of abuse. A baby has been shaken not significant damage, but the shock can lead to brain and eye damage spine, neck, ribs, bleeding or bone fractures. Abnormal brain development: in some cases, there is evidence that child abuse or child led to the development of severe damage to brain development, which may lead to abnormal development. These changes in brain development have long-term and affect a child's ability to process information, to speak and to excel in school. Poor physical health: Some studies suggest that between different types of dysfunctional domestic situations (such as child abuse) and poor health is directly related (Finkelhor, 2009).
Social Categories Affected by Child Abuse
There are no specific social categories in which child abuse prevails. It can happen in any category. Child abuse mostly occurs in those homes where the parents do not keep a sharp look out for any change in the behavior of their children. It also occurs when the children are not educated about the dangers that strangers or even family members can cause to a child. There are thousands of stories and reports about incest. One cannot even image how a father can sexually abuse his own child/children. Incest is common but is under reported as the child doesn't get the nerve to report his/her own father or even if the child tells about this abuse to his mother or any adult, they usually don't believe the child's story (Turton, 2008). Children are creative and imaginative and they tend to make up stories but parents or responsible adults should properly investigate the matter if it relates to abuse.
