This pressure is important for making sure that lungs expand with deep inspiration. When chylothorax, pyothorax, hemothorax or pniumothorax gathers in the pleural cavity, lungs expansion is confined, and the negative pressure is lost. The drain of chest tube lets the fluid or air pass from the pleural cavity.
