CEA (Cumulative Effects Assessment) as a component of EIA

By

ABSTRACT

We can define the concept of cumulative effects assessments as the combination of the assessment of the impact of a particular project on the environment. Cooper and Sheates had conducted a study to analyze the fact that how much importance are the firms giving to the concept of assessing the impact of a project on their environment and whether they are studying the CEA as a part of EIA. This research study has made an effort to make an continuation of the study conducted by Cooper and Sheates and tried to study the fact that whether or not there has been an impact on the way in which firms take the concept of CEA as a part of EIA. The consideration of cumulative effects has been required for project EIAs since 1988 in the UK, but researchers have noted how rarely it was undertaken. Although, attention to the consideration of cumulative effects in project EIAs has improved slightly since the 1999 regulations, the level of assessment continues to be low. Different methods and process for Cumulative Effect Assessment describe those that have been developed for the process of Environmental Impact Assessment. Effective descriptions of methods and process could be discovered in the printed documents of the USA Council on Environmental Quality (1997), European Commission publication, as well as, a Canadian Environmental Impact Assessment Agency. In the following table, we have summarized an eleven-step process that can be followed within three liberal phases, i.e. scoping, description of the impacted environment, and determination of the environmental effects of the expected strategic plan or projects.
