In the United States, the war fought over the secession of the Confederate States is referred as The Civil War or at times 'War between the states. The sectional tension between the North & south resulted in the Civil War which was fought from 1861-1865. In 1860, when Abraham Lincoln was the president, conflict between the free North & slaveholding South erupted. The idea of one single American Nation was rejected by eleven southern states, and they seceded themselves from the union. Lincoln considered this act of secession illegal & asserts his solider to crush the menacing mutiny. Numerous victories came their way during the first two years of war, but the losses were immense. The damage was massive killing more than 600,000 soldiers & ravaging huge areas of the Southern part because of the ruthless and fierce battles (Goldfield, 2002, p.1-2).
The Civil war has been controversial through centuries. It was very difficult & complex to tip out the main reason behind this war. The causes of the civil war were quite complex. Since 1850, slavery has been the central source of political fight and edifice of revolt. The southern leaders were against the presidency of Abraham Lincoln. The elections held in 1860 elected Abraham Lincoln as the new Republican President. The republican parties along with the many southern states disunion themselves following the Lincoln victory in the election. (Goldfield, 2002, p.3-4).
