Case Analysis - Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Introduction
The COPD also regarded as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, is a group of diseases of the respiratory system of bronchi. It gets characterized by the slow and sluggish impediment of the passage way in the lungs, combined with permanent distension of alveoli with destruction of alveolar walls.
In this case study, we try to explore the causes, incidence, risk factors and symptoms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on the case analysis of Mr. L who is suffering from this disease and its relation with the working environment of Mr. L. The research also analyzes many aspects of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and tries to gauge its effect on personal living and societal status. Finally, the research describes various complications, prevention measures which are responsible for the decrease in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Case Analysis
This case is the intermediate analysis of the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Mr. L. is a 55-year-old man who lives in a large city. He works as a bartender in a large hotel and has been a heavy smoker for 40 years. Seven years ago he got diagnosed as having COPD. Mr. L travels through bus to work, although he still has to walk about three blocks to the bar where he works. Recently, he has found it increasingly difficult to walk the three blocks without stopping to rest at frequent intervals. There are various issues that he is encountering at work pace with customers and management with his coughing problems. Sis manager has also expressed concern about the effect Mr. L.'s continuous coughing has on customers.
Description of the disease
The disease is defined as the lung disorder of an obstruction of the airways usually progressive and irreversible. The basic reason for this disease is the heavy smoking over a long time. In rare cases people who do not smoke also get COPD due to either exposure to certain gases or the inhaling secondary gases from the atmosphere (Degeling , 2003).
Symptoms of COPD
The symptoms of COPD develop gradually over the time, therefore; people may not know that they are sick. Mr. L had these following symptoms which became prolonged due to the disease.
Cough, with or without mucus
Respiratory infections
Squatness of breath also called dyspnea that gets worse with even a meek activity
