Oakland A is also the birthplace of Central Maine Power and now serves as the home of First Park - Maine's premiere Business & Technology Center. Located at Exit 33 off Interstate 95, First Park is a centrally located 285 acre development specifically built to house Maine's emerging technological and information based industries (Held McGrew Goldblatt and Perraton 1999). In addition to Oakland, there are 23 other communities that have pledged financial support for this venture including the service center communities of Waterville (adjacent to Oakland) and Maine's capital, Augusta (20 miles).
