Abstract

During this case study I will investigate my client's anxiety when travelling or being away from home. I will also assess her suitability of hypnotherapy. I will identify any contraindications, make recommendations and then propose a treatment plan.

Initial Consultation

Emma of 34 years has a job that requires her to stay away from home from time to time. Leading up to, during and post these business trips Emma experiences a general unease and a small amount of anxiety. Emma also finds it difficult to switch off at night and getting off to sleep can at times be difficult. The anxiety does not occur if she is going on holiday.

“From the moment I know I am going on a business trip, I am thinking about coming home. I feel restless and time passes slowly. My trip is all planned for me and I feel I have little choice about where I stay, where I eat and everything just seams difficult. When I come back home it takes me a few days to adjust and relax once again”.

Emma likes her job as a trainer and says she in a good relationship with someone she loves and whom loves her. She doesn't know why she feels they way she does. Usually (when she is not travelling) she feels relaxed and can sleep easily. EB would like to feel more relaxed, less anxious and sleep easier when travelling.

The client's modality is visual; she had a good imagination although at times it can work against her. She enjoys colouring by numbers as it helps her to relax. A copy of the consultation form is attached. The clients name and address have removed for the purpose of confidently. The client is of general good health and has no known medical conditions or psychotic disorders. No contraindications have been identified and GP permission is not required.
