Introduction

The world has been in the stages of evolution since its beginning. Mankind begun the life from Stone Age and has now stepped into the developed times of Industrial Revolution. His innovations and technology in 21st century has made the world grow faster and prosper further.

Similar is the case with the organizations containing large amount of databases. The databases of hundreds and thousands of employees are accessible with in no time at all. Not a discipline at all. In fact it is a tool that if used properly in an organization can ultimately bring about a new change. Let's further evaluate KM in our discussion.

Knowledge Management

One of the most important factors that allow such flexibility in organizational management is Knowledge Management (KM). Knowledge management is important as organizations consider employees to be their most valuable asset. Although KM has evolved over the past few years in fields such as IT Management, books, journals and computer systems but their implementation depends on factors such as cost, hybrid solutions technology, market hierarchies and processes. (Arian, 1992).

Data, information and knowledge with regard to KM

Data information and knowledge correlate to knowledge management in a sense that data which is a collection of raw facts and figures and information that is meaningful matter is important and knowledge that comprises of practice, strategy, method, or approach concludes KM. As these are the basic ingredients that together make up a solid foundation in making KM successful (John 1998).

Data: Collection of raw facts and figures which contains meaningless information.

Information: Meaningful information processing (What, who, when, where)

Knowledge: comprises of strategy, practice and method.
