Cardiovascular disease

Introduction

The prevalence of Cardio vascular disease was surprisingly much higher than expected by clinicians. This led WHO experts to address the following statement: "Coronary heart disease or coronary heart disease has reached a huge spread, affecting more and more young people. In subsequent years, this will lead to the greatest epidemic to the mankind, if we are not able to reverse this trend through persistent research to elucidate the causes and prevention of this disease. "

The results of these studies have allowed a number of important conclusions about the epidemiology of cardiovascular and coronary heart disease:

1) Coronary heart disease is not only unevenly distributed in different countries / but also among different populations (groups) in these countries;

2) The disease often occurs covertly;

3) Acute coronary insufficiency leads to sudden death, which in 75% of deaths occur before the arrival of an ambulance.

(Data compiled by WHO experts, testify to the high irregularity of mortality from coronary heart disease)

The BDI has implemented preventive strategies to overcome the risks and factors related to the cardiovascular disease and diagnose it before it is being clinically manifested. The reason behind the research and implementation is based on the casualties and fatalities that today's population is facing due to cardiovascular disease. By introducing a CVD risk biochip it would be possible to find about the CVD prior to any casualties. The risk biochip is a simple, effective, efficient and a low cost monitoring chip for situations of early cardiac arrests. It can be considered as a primary and secondary prevention method for CVD that can enhance the outcomes of patients suffering from CVD and would allow benefits to the health and costs of people. The goals and objectives behind the creation of biochip were to create new state of the art skills and expertise that would allow benefits to the medical society of the globe. This innovation would directly affect the lives and quality of people's health.

Fluid Mechanics

The microfluidic systems are being considered to have a high potential in many biological applications which include biomolecular separations, polymerase chain reaction and enzymatic assays. The microfluidic devices have many advantages which include the use of parallel sample processing and nano liter reaction volumes which make the microfluidic devices very useful and ideal for chemical analysis.

A platform has been provided by the disposable microfluidic test chips for realizing such testing. PDMS, poly dimethyl siloxane, has become standard for the microfluidic chip proto typing. For large volume production PDMS is less frequently used while most disposable laboratory materials in biochemistry laboratories today are produced by injection molding of thermoplastics. An extremely high throughput has been offered by this automated technique, resulting to produce single unit at a low cost. Over the last decade Uppsala, Sweden has developed a production method for microfluidic chips by CD injection molding, partly by modifying processes and instrumentation originally developed for the CD/DVD industry.

The most frequently used chip material is a cyclo olefinco polymer (COP) sold under the commercial name ...
