Worldwide, the Enercon Group employs over 12,000 employees with numerous subsidiaries and had 2009 sales of 3.4 billion €. The company owns more than 45% of the patents in the field of wind energy technology. Another peculiarity of Enercon, is that the company is among the seven leading wind turbine manufacturers (who have a combined market share of over 90%) was the only non-publicly traded corporation (Gray and Mallory, 1998). On the world market in 2008 was among the Enercon wind turbine manufacturers in fourth place,. this in terms of newly installed equipment performance. In Germany Enercon is the market leader for several years. In 2010, the market share of 59.2% to 60.4% in 2009. It is not enough to gather accurate, and timely data, people need powerful, and easy-to-use analysis tools to help them understand the context, and trends. Discussion
Understanding the consumer is vital as the business world becomes increasingly dynamic, and competitive. The need for accurate, and timely information therefore, become even more apparent (Global Integration, 2010). In a competitive world, Enercon cannot afford to always second guess events. It needs to accurately monitor current business activity, and compare it to historical activity, and future plans to give people the contextual information they need to keep performance on track (Gray and Mallory, 1998). By implementing management information systems, it enhances Enercon's capabilities to help people at all levels to transform data into actionable insight. Management information will offer Enercon a wide range of reporting, and analysis tools whilst equipping management to effectively monitor, analyze, and plan thereby driving competitive advantage with effective information management (Hales, 2001). This project therefore, seeks to get management, and Board approval to invest in Management information systems, and analytical tools by demonstrating how BI will improve decision making for the business (Brown, 1998).
