Abstract

The study is intended to determine the importance of breakfast and the role of school and breakfast clubs in promoting healthy eating. Breakfast is essential for the proper start of the day as it is the most important meal and the children who skip their basic meal have to face millions of problems in short-term as well as long-term. In order to conduct this research, the qualitative approach will be used which is based on the reviews of various literatures. This research approach has been used as it provides the comprehensive knowledge by analyzing the previous research work over the topic.

The findings of the study indicate that the breakfast has a great deal of importance over the health of children mentally and physically and skipping the important meal leaves lifelong impacts. The primary disadvantage of skipping the breakfast is the laziness, fatigue and sluggishness throughout the day. Skipping breakfast leads to poor concentration and poor performance in schools. While on the other hand, the children who eat their breakfast are more likely to have good cognitive skills, creative skills, and mental skills.

It has also been indicated that the breakfast clubs and school breakfast schemes have brought a great contribution in many aspects. It has improved the self-confidence of the children by reducing the growing obesity in children which caused them to skip the breakfast. These breakfast clubs have also increased the knowledge of students towards the nutritious food and their positive impact in their daily life.

Healthy Eating in School

Introduction

Breakfast is deemed as the most important meal throughout the day and ensures the good start of each day. It has become the increasing trend in all over the world that people skip their breakfast specially children are found to be involved in the habit of skipping breakfast. As according to the nutritionists, breakfast means breaking the fast. Therefore, breakfast is important as it breaks the overnight fasting period and helps in replenishing the body with the essential nutrients, minerals and vitamins that are necessary to level up the energy throughout the day. It has been found from the medical research that skipping breakfast leads to significant mental performance weakness while having breakfast leads towards better learning and more activeness. It is because of spending ten to twelve hours of night sleep without food, the energy reserves in children become low and they need fuel to become active physically and mentally. Children who do not have breakfast are generally heavier in weight as compared to the children who eat breakfast. Breakfast helps in reducing the fatigue and weariness. Children who omit their breakfasts are more likely to feel hunger for snacks during the day which leads them putting on the weight.
