Books have been a victim of burning since the year 213 BCE, at least that's by far of what we know. Shih Huang-ti, the Chinese emperor ordered to erase all the literature and books, the whole Chinese history to be erased by burning it all to the ground. So did the students of Mumbai University recently in 2010 of Rohinton Mistry's 'Such a Long Journey' at the gates of the university.
