Joel Spring received his doctorate in educational policy studies at the University of Wisconsin. He is currently a professor at Queens College and Graduate Center City University of New York. His great-grandfather had been the first rector of the Chief Choctaw Nation in Indian Territory, and his grandfather, Joel S.
