Using the Existential Theory

What is Bob's problem, please explain fully.

Bob is 34 years old who had experienced disturbing childhood experiences. These experiences have affected him and his personality development. As a child, he witness conflicts between his mother and father. Since a very young age, Bob became the protector of his fraternal twin sister, as she was mentally disabled. Furthermore, Bob's parents could not pay adequate attention to their children as they were busy in the development of their first restaurant. One of the most disturbing and agonizing moments of his life pertains to the conflicts and fights between his parents. There was an incidence when his mother threw a knife at his father, while cursing the Bob and his sister. This is indeed a painful memory. In addition to his distressing memories, he found that he and his sister were born to his father's mistress. For any child, it is painstaking to know that he or she is an ineligible child. Bob has been able to control his emotions and anger. However, he does show elements of angry emotions on his parents. This has also affected his marriages which eventually results in divorce.

Existential Theory

Existential theory of personality based on the method of analysis of personality in all its fullness and uniqueness of its existence. Part of it is covered with humanistic psychology but has an independent significance. Like the "humanists" existential psychologists stress the importance for understanding human behaviour, free will and search for meaning.

Personality manifests itself mainly in the process of individual choice. The only sense that has real meaning for the person is the one that he has chosen, or created for himself. According to the just opinion of the existential psychology, a person is neither a good beginning, no evil. It is not a slave or a victim unconscious impulses (as in psychoanalysis), or social control (as in behaviorism). He can feel the effect of these forces, but it is his choice. The true identity is being possible when the person on the basis of an understanding selects the plan of his own life. When an individual loses perspective the future rose before him he begins to feel abandoned his inner world is shrinking (Hoffman, 1996).

Solving problems with the self, a person can look up and look around. What now request life situation? What life problems for me top? What I can hear the request life? How wide is the horizon of my vision and understanding of life? The main issue the fourth fundamental motivation is: "What should I do?" This is a question that is addressed to the future. The theme of this final motivation is making you a life. Without this active of itself has no chance to survive existential sense of performance - of profound satisfaction that comes true conceived that the values of living thanks to my efforts.
