Biracial Children and Their Struggle with Identity and Psychological Issues
Introduction
The expansion in social interactions between the ethnic groups has appeared to be one of the major reasons of the demographic, social and cultural changes in the society. These social interactions often come out as a union of Whites, Asians, Blacks, Hispanics or any other group. These mixed relationships are giving birth to a number of biracial offspring. These children possess some unique and exceptional characteristics related to their indefinite ethnicity and are more likely to experience difficulties as they grow up. Racism and categorization are imposed on a biracial child. The society criticizes such children and families on higher levels since they do not fit into any category neatly. Also, identity crisis is experienced by such children on regular basis since the parents from two different identities failed to educate the child about his individual identity and as he grows up he lacks the positive sense of identity as well which is vital to live a successful adult life. Sometimes family members like grandparents and siblings also become an issue for biracial children and it results in their resentment towards their family. Here is a brief discussion on the issues faced by biracial children and their effects on the lives of such children.

Contending with racism, siblings, grandparents and racial identity are the major issues that biracial children face. However, the number of such children has increased steadily over the preceding decades especially after the Civil War.
