Bill Clinton

Introduction

William Jefferson "Bill" Clinton was born as William Jefferson Blythe III on August 19, 1946. He was the 42nd President of the United States in the periods 1993 -1997and 1997 - 2001 and the third youngest president of the nation. Previously he was governor of Arkansas between 1983 and 1992. He beat George HW Bush in 1992 and then Bob Dole in 1996 for the presidential elections for the respective periods in the elections. At the end of his presidency, Clinton and his administration left the White House with a surplus of 559,000 million dollars and approval of its management of 66%, which is the highest for a president of the United States since the Second World War (Bennett, 2006).

Early Years

Bill's biological father William Jefferson Blythe, Jr. died when his mother Virginia Dell Cassidy (1923-1994) was still pregnant with Bill. After his birth, his mother traveled to New Orleans to study nursing when the little Bill was in Hope with grandparents Eldridge and Edith Cassidy, who owned a grocery store. In 1950, his mother returned from nursing school and married second time with Roger Clinton.

In his basic education in primary and secondary, he studied at St. John's Catholic Elementary School and Hot Springs High School respectively. In 1963, he was influenced two times to become a public figure. One was his White House visit where he met President John F. Kennedy. The other was the speech of Martin Luther King "I Have a Dream". Clinton attended the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, receiving the degree of Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service (BSFS) in 1968. After studying at Georgetown University, he went to study in England. While at the University College of Oxford, he took part in the protests against the Vietnam War. This stage of his life has been controversial, because his one of the reasons to study in Europe was to avoid meeting the compulsory military service during the War of Vietnam, which was often used by his political enemies to accuse him of "cowardice" and "deserter ". However, Clinton has said that he was a “conscientious objector "as opposed to the war for political and moral reasons. He later graduated in law at Yale University in 1973, where he met his future wife, Hillary Clinton. Together they form one of the world's most popular couples, and as the first lady she had great relevance in the public life of the United States. They have one daughter, Chelsea Victoria Clinton (Blaney & Benoit, 2001).

In the summer of 2004, he published his memoirs under the title My Life. In September of that year he underwent a successful operation of the heart.

Bill plays the saxophone and his favorite book is the novel, “One Hundred Years of Solitude” by award-winning Colombian writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez (Clinton, 2004).

Governor of Arkansas

Clinton was governor of Arkansas between 1978 and 1992. He was the youngest governor elected in the country with 32 years of age. He was known for his work in education reform and the viability of Arkansas. With his wife Hillary, he carried out a successful reform committee for urban health care. It also promoted an unpopular tax on motor vehicles. Then he lost his re-election against Republican challenger, Frank D. White. He was later elected as the Governor of Arkansas for the period ...
