Introduction

The American Society of Interior Designers defines an interior designer as someone "professionally trained to create a functional and quality interior environment. Qualified through education, experience and examination, a professional designer can identify research and creatively resolve issues and lead to a healthy, safe and comfortable physical environment" (Bockstedt, J., & Goh, K., 2011).

Rex Davis founded Davis Interiors Ltd in 1955. It was a small business. Over the years, it has managed to grow in to one of the oldest and most experienced shipboard habitability contractor. It is currently owned by a woman who comes in to the third generation of Rex Davis. The location of their faculty is in Norfolk, VA. It is also known as world's largest naval installation. They provide services such as sewing rooms, sheet metal shops, upholstery shop, warehouse as well as a design staff. They state to solve any shipboard habitability need. They have teams of dedicated employees, being employed for more than 20 years which according to them helps them in applying a vast collection of experience in operations and in employee training to every project. Davis Interiors Ltd takes pride in meeting the requirements of every project they do and every request the customers have. They have been known throughout the world and are specially appreciated by the naval forces of the United States of America for providing quality services and skilled expertise to design various spaces that could be functional, aesthetical and comfortable while conforming strictly to NAVSEA specifications.

Discussion

As an interior designer company, Davis Interiors Ltd should opt for both, selective bidding as well as negotiated work. Selective bidding is considered to be an effective strategy which focuses on the careful evaluation of bidding opportunities that lays its basis on quality. The bids that do not suit the company in any way should be passed on. This gives the bidders more time to bid on each bid make their prices better. This would in turn lead to numerous successful bids. As far as the Davis Interior Ltd is concerned, the bidding should be on specific types of products. These should include restaurants and hotels as well as mansions and even smaller apartments. Davis Interior should target almost every niche in the market. Interior designing is the business of creativity and attractiveness.

It creates an appeal that derives more customers on daily basis. When the opportunity comes up, the organization should take its time to obtain lower and discounted prices from the suppliers and produce a somehow closer estimate to what is expected from the bidder, that tis the organization itself. During the process, the right mindset is applied in estimating the cost.
