Clampitt, Amy, 1920-94, American poet,b. New Providence, Iowa. Alibrarian and reviewer, she composed little until the 1960s. Her first foremost publication publication was in 1974, and her first commercially published volume of verses, The Kingfisher (1983), appeared when she was 63. In the ten years that pursued, Clampitt released five publications of verse, including What the lightweight Was Like (1985), Archaic Figure (1987), and Westward (1990). Her last publication, A quiet Opens, emerged in 1994. The recipient in 1982 of a Guggenheim Fellowship, and in 1984 of an Academy Fellowship, she was made a MacArthur Foundation Fellow in 1992. She was furthermore a member of the American Academy of Arts and notes and educated at the school of William and Mary, Amherst school, and Smith College. She past away of cancerous disease in September 1994.
