Critical Literature Review on Data Capture about Barcode Scanners
Introduction
Data capture is the term used for the recognition and extraction of data from a scanned document, mostly for sending it to a workflow for action as well as routing. It considered as a significant part a of business practices. Data capture software is valuable and complex because it captures particular, targeted data mostly from a form which is necessarily required to execute a business process. There are a number of data capture technologies available in market including magnetic stripe, bar code (both linear and 2D symbologies), and biometrics, RFID, smart cards (both contact and contactless), fingerprint scanning, Real Time Locating Systems (RTLS) and Near Field Communications. There are considerable differences in all these devices and all are used for specific purposes but they all are designed to provide a means of data capture or data collection without any human intervention. Here data capture through barcode scanners is going to be studied. Furthermore, implementation of barcode scanners in different areas and its effectiveness will be discussed.
Barcode Scanners are considered to be very important in business practices as they help in capturing important data in a very simple way. They work accordingly with the environment. Broadest and most fully featured portfolio of bar code scanners are offered these days such as, handsfree, handheld, fixed mount scanners and microkiosks that serve people with the best data capture services. This advance technology of scanning allows any bar code to e virtually captured by workers either it printed on a damaged or dirty label or it displayed on the screen of a mobile phone. They type of data does not matter actually, a scanner is always ready to perform its job involving the PDF417 bar codes or 1D and 2D bar codes as well as various other identification images, cards, RFID tags, signatures, direct part marks, optical character recognition (OCR), and the special bar codes on the bottom of checks (MICR) in order to capture the text on documents. This technology is highly efficient as it facilitates workers to capture virtually any bar code in as fast as laser-like speed.
Significance of the Study
This study will be beneficial for business dealers who will be aware with the advantages of implementing this advance technology for conducting their business practices.
