Abstract

The General Aviation Manufactures Association was set up as a platform to bring different aviation manufactures together so that the common interests can be better met in the short and long term. As time passed, the association took various measures that helped it to become one of the biggest contributors to the U.S economy. The association, with a futuristic vision, takes various steps that are meant to overcome the challenges it faces and is likely to face. The present day challenges for the association are the restrictions on export as imposed by the U.S government, the environmental impact of the aviation industry, and the shortage of skilled workforce. However, it seems that with the measures adopted by the association and also with the help of U.S government, the association will be able to overcome these hurdles.

Introduction

General aviation (GA) is defined as all aviation other than military and commercial airlines.

General aviation has come a long way in the past 100 years and is one of nation's most important and dynamic industries. It is responsible for carrying 166 million passengers annually on aircraft ranging from two seat trainers to intercontinental business jets, general aviation represents millions of jobs, billions of dollars in economic output and the growth of thousands of cities, businesses, services and manufacturing facilities around the world.

General aviation reaches impacts every aspect of the global society in affects all the individuals residing in it. It serves as a means of transportation for the business man and as a source of increased crop yield and efficient fertilizing for farmers. In other areas, general aviation fights fires, carries patients, and performs aerial mapping and pipeline patrol. General aviation is an essential and critical part of a magnificent system operated for the public benefit.

Overview of GAMA

General Aviation Manufacturers Association is a representative of more than 70 world's leading manufacturers of engines, fixed wing general aviation airplanes, and avionic. Moreover, the member companies of GAMA are also in the business of operating fleets of airplanes and respective maintenance facilities. The company also provides training to pilots and technicians in its training centers. GAMA has its headquarters in Washington, DC. and other offices in Belgium and Brussels. The company is very active in representing the concerns of its member to the governmental agencies. These concerns include legal issues and requirements regarding safety and aviation security (Harry, 2001). General Aviation Manufacturers Association also works in collaboration with International Civil Aviation Organization to represent the common interests of the industry and general aviation worldwide. GAMA has engaged in numerous activities for the purpose of creating awareness of general aviation and the importance of this industry in the world's economy.
