The Asperger syndrome or disorder is a mental and behavioral disorder that is part of the spectrum of autistic disorders. The term was first used by Lorna Wing in 1981 in a journal of psychiatry and psychology, so named in recognition of previous work of Hans Asperger , a psychiatrist and pediatrician Austrian who had given the syndrome in 1944. Asperger used the term "autistic psychopathy," a name that lent itself to confusion by the association of the term " psychopath "with persons with characteristics sociopathic or antisocial personality. According to Wing, Asperger wanted to use the word "psychopath" in the technical sense of simpler "pathological personality( Yuille, 2007, 390-420).
