Companies have the opportunity to participate in the EC-wide system for environmental management and environmental auditing. The term "audit" indicates that there is a systematic environmental auditing and environmental law.

Environmental audit is a planning and management tool that gives an answer to the demands required for the treatment of the urban environment. It is used for analysis followed by the interpretation of the status and operation of entities such as a company or a municipality, analyzing the interaction of all aspects required to identify those both weak and strong points on which to advocate for able to get a respectable model for the environment. Industrial production creates high environmental liabilities that may have an impact on economic costs and responsibilities subsidiaries over the business or industry.

According to the law of waste, there are different recovery obligations of pollution, such as criminal charges which can truly represent higher costs. That is why the environmental audit is called buy-sell transaction, because they include a comprehensive analysis of economic and legal costs relating to the possible contamination of soil, water or even the same buildings, breach of the established environmental legislation and environmental management is inappropriate.
