Introduction

First step of language learning and communication begins with the development of vocabulary. This highlights the importance of vocabulary in the process of language acquisition and communication. After realizing the concept of language learning the most important aspect is to understand the problem associated with these languages learners that, how many words are required for an effective communication and how vocabulary assist in better communication.

Further, this study will discus the below mentioned points in order to figure out how many words does a learner need to know ina foreign language, and how does a learner's vocabulary knowledge relate to how well they can perform communicatively?

Effective Communication

Effective communication is one of the main purposes which langue serves. This is the reason that due to any gap in the language learning process it results in communication gap. Communication gap can create lots of problems and misunderstandings.

Foreign Language Learning and Use of Vocabulary

Foreign language learning is requires the acquisition of lexical knowledge. This eventually led to the better understanding and learning of the language skills which involves reading, speaking, writing and listening.

Vocabulary AcquisitionAfter acquisition of L1 vocabulary, it becomes difficult for the second language learner to acquire more words of a new language. Vocabulary acquisition is not an easy process, there are various problems associated with it.

The main focus of this study is to identify that how many words; a second language learner needs in order to develop better communication skills this is the main reason that it creates problems for the language learners.

Vocabulary always plays a major role in the process of language learning. Communication process is not possible without sufficient vocabulary.

Introduction

First step of language learning begins with the development of vocabulary. It is same for all the language learning processes whether it is for the first language acquisition or second language learning. For all the languages, it is the first process which requires a better understanding of the language acquisition. It is also an important aspect that language learning and communication is not possible without vocabulary. Without vocabulary, there is no concept of language. This provides that the vocabulary is generally contributing more in language learning process than language learning system (Macaro, 2005, p.35).
