Operation Management

The term operation management can be defined as an area of Business Administration which is dedicated, to both research and the implementation of all those actions that tend to generate greater value added products through the planning, organization, direction and control in the production of both goods and of services, all aimed at increasing quality, productivity, improve customer satisfaction for customers and reduce costs. In this study, the operation management system of “Bank of England Museum” will be defined.

Operations function within the organisation

At a strategic level, objective of the operations management involves finding a sustainable competitive advantage for the company. In case of Bank of England Museum, the company's competitive advantage is its product quality (Wilson 1995, pp. 56-62). The management of operations is the study of decision making in the operations function. From these definitions, it can be assumed that the operation function of Bank of England Museum includes planning, organizing, managing personnel, directing and controlling the product, in order to achieve optimized production function.

Following is the input-process-output diagram of Bank of England Museum, which helps museum to remain one of the best tourist attractions of England (Naughton 2002, pp. 25-32).

The manufacturing process used at Bank of England Museum includes planning and execution.

Planning is the process in which museums consider different options to set its organizational objectives, like how to keep the building attractive, how to maintain the number of visitors, how to make visitors feel the scenes behind every antique (Chase 2001, pp. 25-30).
