General Outline

This report on community development will attempt to focus to create the significance of community development and work of community development in its affiliation with 'The Greenwich Community Food Initiative'. This report will also reveals the fact that how empowerment and participation has directed to a profitable winning of business enterprise, that is seeking to remove the obstacles to healthy eating, consequently providing a way for a social transformation within its functional area. Moreover, this report will highlight the way in which the goals and objectives of the Initiative is planned to emphasize on most of the main concerns of the Community Development National occupational Standards, like Collective actions, working and learning together and community empowerment. Naturally, this study has certain limitations arising from the length and complexity of an issue, but hopefully you will be a modest contribution to the clarification and understanding some aspects of community development (Smith 1999 2006).

In order to arrive at a more or less in need of community development, the two terms that compose it, and analyzed, i.e. Development and Community. However, it is necessary to define initial elements of a community subsequently to arrive at a definition of it. Thus, when speaking of the community, it is referring to: “A social unit, which can refer both to small groups of settlers, a neighbourhood, village, a small town, as geographic areas and larger populations (countries, regions, continents or worldwide). With the elements mentioned by Brophy (2001), the following definition of community: "Community is a social unit, whose members share the same trait, interest, item common sense of belonging to, located in a geographic area in which the number of people interact more intensely with each other in another context ".Whereas, the development seems to be more related to mental and social changes than purely economic factors. On the other hand, the cumulative growth and durable global real product, hampered in developing countries by socio-cultural and economic needs to change. This brief analysis of the terms community and development leads to point out the comprehensive notion of Community Development, which has also evolved over time. This takes the definition of community development, which implies that "It is a complex process or progressive is a set of phases and stages, with a direction, aiming to achieve a series of objectives or a prefixed goal.” The Community Development Foundation UK moreover affirms that “community development is a structured intervention that gives communities greater control over the conditions that affect their lives. This does not solve all the problems faced by a local community, but it does build up confidence to tackle such problems as effectively as any local action can. Community development works at the level of local groups and organisations rather than with individuals or families ...
