Introduction

Technology fastened the growth of a human being as well as it also fastened the rate of crime by providing some more reliable and secure mediums for crime to the criminals. If it provides convenience to the consumers, then this technology advancements like email, online banking and other online activities also attracts attention of criminals as it does not require physical presence of the criminal and increases the effectiveness of crime. These types of crimes like piracy hacking called digital crimes, which also contradict with many criminological theories, emphasize on the position and time of criminal to conduct crime. To stop digital crimes, police and other security departments also setup their professionals when criminals start to use digital crimes to earn money. The work of these personals is to detect and capture the responsible criminal which involve in any digital crime. To reduce piracy rate, government make rules and announce very serious punishments to criminals who involved in these crimes. Similarly, to stop hacking, specific rules are also present that makes critical to conduct such crime for criminal.

Internet and Digital Crimes

The word Digital Crime used for the crime which involves technology and defined as: “The crime that relates with the modern innovation of internet and online activities called cyber crime or digital crime”. Digital crime is some time referred as cyber crime. Digital crime uses the application of the internet to grab money. With the increment, in usage of internet or online financial applications like online shopping, online selling and online banking, the rate of digital crime also increased. The problem of increasing digital crime not limited to any country, but it is a global problem. To reduce this digital crime rate, international and global rules must be made. These rules must be followed by all over the world because this is a type of crime in which presence of criminal is not necessary at the place where crime conducted. In this crime, when crime conducted the criminal is not present even in the same country; therefore, it is very difficult for police to capture the criminal responsible for this crime. This reason is responsible and demanded needs of universal laws.

Digital crimes and traditional criminological theories

Digital crime is the very serious issue for all over the globe. These types of crimes define a new or modern way of crime definition. For this type, of crime, the time and position of crime is not necessary. Criminal can perform crime from any place from all over the world at any time. This definition has no meaning before the invention of the internet or the latest technology that reduces the world in a computer. According to Drinkhall, J., it seems that certain very useful criminological theories and techniques become useless in some years due to the advancement of the word online (Drinkhall 1997, P 224).
