Introduction

The economic success of Asian region has been significant despite the financial chaos prevalent in Southeast and East Asia. If we analyze the data of last 40 years, there has been remarkable economic success of the Asian region. There have been profound changes in the status of Women which have been attributed to the significance of Economic, social and political developments. The conditions of women were not up to the mark in the historic period. With the rise of economic development, the status of women has improved massively. Social and political changes pertaining to equality and individual rights have had a major role to play in the transformation of Women's status. On the other hand there has been a strong influence of cultural traditions that have completely reshaped status of Asian women. It has been observed that cultural traditions that relate with family life have had a major influence on the status of Women. The recent history suggests that there were scarce women that studied secondary school and there were proportionately very less women that worked outside home. But if we look at the present society, there have been many women that work outside homes as well as women that attend secondary school (AMC, 2000). It has been observed that Women are taking up the concept of paid employment as a means of survival. There has been an alarming increase in women's life expectancy as compared with men's life expectancy. But still, if we consider the early childhood, girls tend to die more.
