Abstract

In this study we try to explore the concept of relationship between Autism Spectrum Disorder and Asperger's Syndrome in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on Autism Spectrum Disorder and Asperger's Syndrome and their relationship. The research also analyzes many aspects of Autism Spectrum Disorder and Asperger's Syndrome and tries to gauge their effect on each other.

I.What is ASD and Asperger's Syndrome?

Autism Spectrum Disorder

Autism spectrum disorder is a disorder of childhood development. That is, it is a disorder that manifests itself in first three years of life and is characterized not appear or do so clearly deviated from the expected - some aspects of normal development: competencies usual interact, communicate and play or behave like the others. It is believed that some forms of autism may be largely overlap. But actually, there are many variations of symptoms of autism in children, which can be described as a spectrum disorder of autism (American Psychiatric Association, 2000). It is observed that more and more children are born with the disease. It is still not clear why so many children suffering from this disease. With autism it is crucial to establish the diagnosis, because with early diagnosis can begin early treatment of the disease, which makes it easier to adjust the manifestations of the disease.

Asperger's Syndrome

Asperger's Syndrome is a profound disorder of brain development characterized by impairments in social interaction and motor coordination, and the unusual and restricted patterns of interest and behavior. This behavior was observed and described by Hans Asperger, an Austrian physician, whose work was only translated to the world in the eighties (Frith, 1991).

II.What system of the human body is affected by these syndromes and why?

Autism Spectrum Disorder and Asperger's Syndrome affects the brain of human body. Morphological studies of the brain, either by MRI or neuropathological examination, showed increased brain size in the first years of life, decrease the size of the cerebellum, thinning of the corpus callosum, decreased number of cells cerebellar Purkinje cell and crowding in certain brain areas, including the amygdale (Koegel & Koegel, 2006). A recent study has shown immunopathological inflammatory changes in microglia and astroglia in the brain, especially in the cerebellum, which are considered innate and acquired, is currently not known the exact meaning of these alterations. Have been studied by SPECT (single photon emission computed tomography) or in tissues obtained at autopsy, GABA, serotonin, acetylcholine and glutamate, found various alterations, this study area currently has a special interest regarding the use medications (Klin, Volkmar & Sparrow, 2000).
