Introduction

Nursing a child or an infant is not just a matter of taking care of a miniature adult. It is important to understand the factors that are to be considered in order to up bring a child healthy and to develop good health (www.nhscareers.nhs.uk). It is essential to have knowledge regarding the facts that can reduce hospital admission and illness. This could be achieved with great team work and excellent partnership between the parents and the people responsible for looking after the child at home.

Another major factor that influences the relationship existing between nurses and younger children is the lack of communication. It is quite evident that it is difficult to communicate with younger children and therefore leads to several complications in the treatment. On the contrary adults can easily express their need and how they feel, which tends to make the treatment easier. It is very important for children nurses to have the ability to identify children's health as it does not take much time for it to become worse.

Discussion

The research provides a broad overview and application of the theory of nursing and the framework and criteria for holistic pediatric oncology. The article also tends to identify difference aspects and uses of Orem's theory. In this study the theory is applicable on an 8 year old boy recently diagnosed with leukemia. Main focus of the study is on the role of the mother in meeting her son's self care needs and demands and the required nursing system necessary to assist the parents in meeting their son's self-care demands.
