Ecosystem Services Assessment into Contaminated Site Remediation
Ecosystem
Today our world is undergoing many changes through the action of man, changes that in some way or other affect the environment and our lives. It is our duty to make this work learn more about our ecosystems, the factors that compose them, the relationships between individuals (whether of the same or different species), pollution, types, causes and consequences, among other things that could influence us to maintain or recover the balance of our environment
Ecosystem Services
Every ecosystem can offer a variety of direct and indirect services. Direct connections are those human populations that consume directly or through benefits such as water and food. Indirect services include intermediate or pollination, nutrient cycling and climate. These services do not offer a good opportunity to directly or society, but the support of the ecological and biological processes necessary to maintain the ecosystem (Kapustka, Landis, 2010). Given the central role of ecosystem services, even small changes in ecosystems that occur at contaminated sites alter the benefits and potential benefits in the future, people may come from the regional environment. Ecosystem Assessment
In carrying out an assessment of ecosystem services, project managers can choose the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment. United Nations sponsored program breaks MEA ecosystem services in the following four categories:
Regulating services are the benefits people derive from the regulation of ecosystem processes.
Support services are the functions necessary for the production of all other services.
These include physical delivery of materials or products obtained from ecosystems.
Cultural services are the nonmaterial benefits people receive from ecosystems or intangible.
The final ecosystem services approach focuses on the final products and direct services. Some of the latter ecosystem services are:
Ecosystem disturbance-regulation mitigating the effects of natural events such as hurricanes, floods and droughts.
Production-food category covers the supply of wild food sources (e.g. fish, wildlife, plants, and fungi).
Genetic and medical supplies, materials may be used for scientific purposes, including the use of wild genes for improved crops and vegetation used for medicinal production processes.
Cultural services people derive benefit from recreational, aesthetic, scientific and cultural experiences with nature.
Ecosystem Services Assessment
To avoid unnecessary adverse effects on ecosystems during rehabilitation, it is useful to identify and evaluate ecosystem services at the site level. The methodology and evaluation process may include the following:
