Introduction

This paper analyzes the issues presented in four articles related to information systems. The four articles are:

“Cedars-Sinai Doctors Cling to Pen and Paper”, written by Ceci Connolly, the staff writer of the Washington Post, “3 Reasons Why More Outsourcing Is Inevitable”, authored by Steve Andriole, “Infrastructure and Evolving Information Systems”, by Christopher Louge, and “Data and Voice Transmission Systems”, written by an anonymous author.

Cedars-Sinai Doctors Cling to Pen and Paper

The advent of technology has taken the medical world by storm. There are many advantages of implementing technology within an organization such as Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, but there are issues too that need to be addressed properly. And this is the fact of flaws in going technological that this article has highlighted.

Electronic Medical Records have brought about a revolutionary change in medical science helping the physicians to have accurate information regarding a case at hand. But there are some instances when maintaining such records on a system without considering the affect of time that a system takes to proceed the information contained in a record can be disastrous and that's what actually happened at Cedars-Sinai (Connolly, 2005, A01).

One lesson can be learnt from this issue is that paper and pen are never going to lose their importance whatever the circumstances may be. And that the computers are no match to human beings. Today organizations are going towards expert system and knowledge management implementation but they can not do it simply at the cost of time and human power.

Once the re-designed information is released into the public realm, it must be appropriately monitored. Continuous monitoring is important, to keep abreast of changes in organizations and society. In our experience, few organizations monitor effectively. In this article discusses at length the reasons as to why outsourcing has a bright future ahead and there are still chances for the companies to outsource because of the fact that the number of students showing interest in engineering majors is decreasing day by day and there is still need to address the issues on the academic side of the problem. The relationship needs to be very strong between the educational institutes and the industry so that the persisting gap between the demand and supply ratio should be annulled to an extent that there still remains a room for induction of new blood into the mainstream industry (itmanagement.earthweb.com).

The necessity of maintaining standards, as emphasized by the author of the article is another area of concern. The recession of financial resources has forced the companies to be quality conscious therefore, there tends to be more focus on quality and maintenance of standards so that the organizations could establish and enjoy a substantial customer base.
