The relationship between work-life balance (WLB) (ie, perceived adequacy of time for work and social life) and well-being are well documented. However, previous studies have failed to sufficiently explain why this link exists. In this study, was to test the hypothesis that a sufficient amount of time allocated to increase welfare, because it promotes the satisfaction of personal needs. Using two separate samples (students and employees), the need to perform a mediating role between the WLB and well-being has been supported. The results show that the perceived adequacy of time for work and social life predicts the level of welfare, only if they fulfilled the needs of the individual ithin that time. The authors examine the issues, work-life balance, which applies to all Canadian scientists and then focus on issues that have arisen in the early stages of academic careers in professional psychology programs. In addition, the authors discuss "family, including the track" pregnancy. The authors identify psychological problems, such as setting priorities, setting goals and striving to "Say No". In the final section, the authors offer suggestions on how to gather information that will inform the choice of career, as well as strategies to help achieve work-life balance. Although most students of psychology graduates are women, and a lot of literature on work-life balance is based on the women, many of the issues, the authors examine applicable to men and women. This understanding between work and family balance sets it apart from the work of family conflicts and other representations, which are used to understand how work and family domains are related to each other.
