Numerous years have passed; unfinished works frequently motivate others to conceive their own version. Michelangelo left some unfinished sculptures and paintings, with sketches and partially accomplished paintings motivating others. If the work is to be done on commission but is not finished it is routinely passed on to another creative person. Leonardo da Vinci's work on the Adoration of the Magi for the monastery of San Donato was halted when he left Florence for Milan. Still needing an altarpiece, the monks engaged Filippino Lippi to conceive one. Both paintings now suspend in the Uffizi gallery. (Baldini, 2002)
