Representation of Motherhood in the Alien and Caroline
Introduction
The two movies have been selected to compare and contrast the role of motherhood depicted in the movie. The first movie is the Aliens that is a science fiction and action movie which was directed by James Cameron in 1986. The cast of the movie includes Sigourney Weaver, Michael Biehn, William Hope, Carrie Henn, Lance Henriksen, and Bill Paxton. A brief explanation of each of the cast member is as following:
Sigourney Weaver: she played a role as Ellen Ripley and reprised her role from the Alien.
Michael Biehn: played a role as Corporal Dwayne Hicks who was the Colonial Marines's squad leaders.
Lance Henriksen: as Bishop who was the android employee of Sulaco.
Bill Paxton: depicted role as William Hudson who was the Marine team's technician.
William Hope: as Lieutenant William Gorman who was the marine's commanding officer.
The movie was filmed at the Pinewood Studios on budget of around $18 millions. Director faced numerous of issues during the production of ten months such as personnel and cast disruptions, cultural clashes among director and the British Crew. Cameron also experienced the clashed with the camera man when the camera man refused to light the scene according to the instructions of director. Cameron came across with the numerous issues at the time of creating the musical score. James Horner, the music composer of the movie asserted that he would never work with Cameron again as the film schedules were too short as well as stressful. Cameron again faced the difficulty at the time of filming the miniatures due to the weather as the wind would blow the props. As the two stages were used to construct the colony using the miniature models which were around six feet tall and three feet wide.
The second movie is the Caroline that is a Stop Motion 3D horror and fantasy movie which was directed by Henry Selick in 2009, based on the novel of Neil Gaiman. The cast of the movie includes Dakota Fanning, Jennifer, Dawn French, Teri Hatcher, John Hodgman, and Bruno Coulais. A brief explanation of each of the cast member is as following:
Dakota Fanning: as a brave and clever eleven years old girl Coraline Jones. She was neglected by her parents in the movie.
Teri Hatcher: as a busy mother and the other mother of Coraline, Mel Jones. The busy mother was Mel was a writer and was very busy and did not pay attention to her only daughter. However, she loved her a lot. While the other mother was from the other world. She was exactly like Mel as she had power to transform herself into different people. She reflected herself as the perfect mother as she was very caring but later on she became a monster. She was actually a witch with bony face.
John Hodgman: as Charlie Jones who was the father of Coraline as well as the other father. The real father was the busiest father as the busy ...
