In this study we try to explore the concept of Aromatherapy in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on aromatherapy and its relation with depression. The research also analyzes many aspects of aromatherapy and tries to gauge its effect on depression. Finally the research describes various factors which are responsible for aromatherapy and tries to describe the overall effect of aromatherapy on depression
Introduction
There is insufficient evidence to draw conclusions about the benefits of aromatherapy massage for cancer patients.
Aromatherapy massage therapies are frequently used in palliative care of cancer patients to improve the quality of life and reduce psychological distress. This review assessed eight trials and found that massage alone and with aromatherapy oils can reduce anxiety in cancer patients in the short term, but there was no evidence sufficient to draw firm conclusions. These interventions may also have a beneficial effect on symptoms cancer physical but again there is research evidence to assess effectiveness (Safayhi 2004, Pp. 410-3).
Background
An increasing proportion of cancer patients require the services of complementary therapists and has been reported that Aromatherapy massage is a complementary treatment most frequently used in the National Health Service United Kingdom (NHS). Massage is defined as the manipulation of soft tissue body made with the hands to produce effects on the vascular, muscular and nervous. Massage Aromatherapy involves using essential oils that combined with an oil or cream base to handle soft body parts. Tisserand essential oils defined as "constituent volatile organic aromatic vegetable substances contribute to both the taste and the fragrance. Extracted either by distillation or cold pressing (mining)” (Rovesti 2003, Pp. 475-7) and have been used for its antibiotic and antiviral properties by doctors in France for many years. In addition to distillation, essential oils can extracted by a process of maceration or physical removal for certain chemical components of plants. The chemical composition of each essential oil that gives the therapeutic qualities is unique. In the UK, some health professionals currently used as a means of topical essential oils potential to improve the welfare of patients.
The main objective of aromatherapy massage in the care Cancer is to improve the quality of life of patients and reduce the psychological disorder. Maher Howells reported that therapists have clear ideas respect to physical and psychological benefits of therapies complementary for cancer patients. Such perceived benefits include relaxation, stress reduction and stress-related symptoms, reducing the effects treatment side, relieving muscle tension, pain and improved sleep patterns. No But the problems of providing treatment aromatherapy and massage to cancer patients include lack of available research evidence support their efficacy (Roulier 2000, Pp. 177-82).
