Many soon to be high school graduates have plans of continuing his education at a higher education institution. Of course, In order to attend a college of one's choice, he or she must earn the acceptance of the institution they desire to attend which requires that they dedicate much time and effort to make accomplishments worthy of acceptance. Students have long been told that with hard work and great dedication comes the reward of a brighter, more successful future. This seems to be the ideal and fair situation, but it is not always enough to just be the best. Due to discrimination and prejudice, our nation determined that it is necessary to offer more equal opportunities to our nation's minority groups through affirmative action.

Affirmative activity started as corrective for past governmental and social injustices against demographic assemblies that have been subjected to prejudice. Such assemblies are distinuished most routinely by rush, gender, or ethnicity. Affirmative activity hunts for to boost the representation of these demographic assemblies in fields of study and work in which they have conventionally been underrepresented ("Affirmative Action"). During the time when affirmative action was first implemented, it could have been considered the most feasible justice; however, in many ways Americans of both the majority and minority groups are experiencing the downfalls of the act. "Affirmative action was put in place to equalize opportunities for minority groups but, in turn, has created discrimination and mminority students are systematically mismatched with institutions" due to affirmative action, where they underperform relative to the student body. Had they gone to an organisation without the help of affirmative action, to a less selective school, they would have obtained better grades and graduated at higher rates" ("Affirmative Action").

It has been proposed that affirmative action has not fulfilled the purpose it was designed for, but in many ways it has been very successful. Affirmative action by definition, according to Wikipedia, is a policy or a program aimed at increasing the representation of members of groups that have traditionally been discriminated against. This typically focuses on learning, paid work, government contracting, wellbeing care, or communal welfare. The United States assembly passed the municipal privileges proceed of 1964 to prohibit segregation in public accommodations and discrimination in learning and employment. Afterward, the Johnson administration embraced affirmative action in 1965, by issuing U.S. Executive alignment 11246, subsequent changed by boss alignment 11375. The Civil Rights Act was passed during a time when many minorities felt as though they were owed retribution for the many years of suffering they endured during America's earlier years.
