Ancient Empire of Ghana

The origins and rise of the ancient West-African Empire of Ghana, situated in the far western savannah, are ambiguous. The empire could be existing before 5th century AD or in the 5th century AD. However, Ghana Empire came to be known as the "The Land of Gold" to reach Baghdad, in the 8th century. This is believed to be the first of many empires that rose in that part of Africa.
