Introduction

By Joyce Carol Oates' "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been", there is a clear understanding of evil to Arnold Friend and how he as a demon tries to Connie in the dark world of sex and emotion. Oates seems to draw real-life scenarios and add in its history. The character of Arnold Friend is what is really there. The harsh reality that Oates included in your story is that there are demons, like Arnold. Many people have played the friend of the Pied Piper of Tucson, who was a serial killer who killed a teenager. (Hurley 372). By incorporating more life, as realities in the story, Oates can build the evil of a friend in an almost believable.

Narrative Analysis

There are many clues in the story imply that Arnold Friend is no friend to all, but is actually a demon come to Connie far. When we first met Arnold Friend, Connie obviously has a sense of unease around him and feels violated by his presence. For example, Arnold immediately begins to wonder if Connie "She wants to come for a walk. (Oates, 1012). Connie Arnold seems to be pressure from the start and obviously there to take a step. The cake that Arnold talks could even have a sexual connotation that Connie did not return because she is so young and blind to the world of sexual pleasures that Arnold lived in Gates chose words carefully to show that Arnold was a snake winding. Connie Arnold often perceived as a bad character and let the reader know by Arnold describes as a pumpkin, except sunglasses. "(Oates, 1013). In this passage refers to a figure Connie Arnold and Halloween In the same quotation refers to Arnold as "he." Oates At other times, the sight of Arnold described as evil. "He smiled so broadly his

Obviously, Oates uses terms like these to illustrate the inhuman quality in human form. Another interesting option of the word he uses is when Arnold Oates wickedly speak to Connie and she returns with "The people do not speak well, you're crazy" (Oates, 1017). This illustrates the fact that Connie Arnold does not recognize such rights. The reader may think that Arnold is an aggressive idiot with a crush on Connie, at least until this point. ...
