The film, Remember the Titans is as sport film drama that is about a coach leading a football team comprising of members of both races (Poulton & Roderick 2008, pp.107-116). The movie is set in a time when racial tensions were high, and it was a challenge for the coach to deal with this issue. There are a lot of differences amongst the team members due to their ethnic backgrounds, but they are resolved as the movie goes on. The problems are handled in a unique way by the players, coaches or everyone that is engaged on a personal level. This paper will review the movie, and tries to discuss the movie in detail by concentrating on its sociological processes. It will also review the examples of personal functions of sports and extra-sport character behavior. The central theme of the movie is racism, but there is a lot to the movie that help it viewers understand about how sports can be a way of overcoming the differences in our society. The main character that helps in overcoming the racial barriers is the head coach, Herman Boone. The movie is based on a true story.

Sociological Process
In the beginning of the movie the football team is pressured to combine the black and white team members due to the decision of the Board. This is an example of social dynamic changes (Potterton & Nadler 2009). Previously in society, it was not acceptable for members of both the races to interact so commonly. Even in the course of the movie, the white captain Garry Bertier has problems making his girlfriend and mom accept his black friend, Julius (Holbrook , 2009, pp.490-513). Some changes in society can be because of the changes in the government policy or the socio-economic structure. It was important for the government to realize that in order for peace to exist in society it is necessary that there is harmony amongst the different diverse groups. It is ultimately the responsibility of the government to make sure that there is no discrimination in society due to race, creed or color. It is the right if every human being to not be discriminated for these reasons.
Critical Theory
The existing white coach has to deal with a black head coach. The head coach, Herman Boone uses a training camp to enforce the bond between the black and white players. The Functionalist Theory can be seen in practice from the start in the movie, as coach focused on participation, achievement and hard work to achieve success (Estes, 2012). The relations are improved between the two groups through intense training sessions, and obliging players to learn about each other through giving them threats of harder training.
