Analysis of Quantitative Study

Problem

•What is the problem the study was conducted to research?

According to Burns & Grove (2008), a research problem is considered to be an area of interest where there is some loophole of knowledge base, required for nursing practice. The problem, the study was conducted to research, was to analyze comprehended obstructions, gains, and self-effectiveness for digging into why action is taken by some nurses in providing tobacco-cessation interventions, while others fail to do so.

•Why is the problem an important one for nursing to research?

For smoking cessation, evidence-based clinical interventions have demonstrated to be effectual in decreasing rates of smoking among patients using tobacco. Making it certain that registered nurses (RNs) are well-informed and knowledgeable enough to offer such clinical interventions can put in to reductions in use of tobacco among their patients who smoke.

Study Purpose

•What is the purpose of the study?

The purpose of this descriptive research study is to analyze beliefs of nursing students regarding smoking, understanding concerning use of tobacco and tobacco dependence interventions, self- efficaciousness to intervene with their patients using tobacco, and distinguish obstacles and advantages to providing interventions for tobacco-cessation. The objective is to find out if in Minnesota, baccalaureate nursing (BSN) students are given adequate training in the tobacco dependence's clinical treatment and to make out apparent hurdles that may confine their capacity to intervene with their patients.

Research Question

•What is the main research question? Hypothesis/hypotheses

There is a loophole in the curriculum of formal nursing education on tobacco control on the beliefs of students regarding their role in providing advice about smoking cessation and behaving as role models. Content is lacked by undergraduate students regarding techniques of clinical tobacco treatment.

•What is the study hypothesis? If it is not stated, what would you say the hypothesis is?

It is hypothesized that personal smoking behaviors of nursing students influenced their ideas concerning tobacco usage and their perception regarding the professional role in assisting smokers quit.

Study Variables

•Identify and describe the major study variables. Identify the study variables by examining the purpose, the objectives, questions, or hypotheses, and the results section of the research article.

The demographic variables used in the study include ethnicity, gender, age, location and type of college, age when start smoking, consideration of oneself as a smoker and usage of tobacco within the last 30 days. The independent variables are smokers, occasional smokers and non- smokers while the dependent variable is the attitude of nursing students towards the intervention strategies for tobacco cessation among their patients.

•INDEPENDENT

Define the meaning of the term “independent variable”

Such variable is independent variable that is varied or manipulated by the researcher. It is the presumed cause.

Identify the independent variables in this study and provided a definition of the variable

The independent variables in this study are nursing undergraduate students that smoke, occasionally smoke and do not smoke. The variable is defined by the use of tobacco within the ...
