Analysis of a story in which the protagonist experiences an epiphany

James Arthur Baldwin was born on August 2, 1924, in New York's Harlem neighborhood. As the center of African American heritage at that time, Harlem was at once a heritage vibrant community of artists and musicians and a district profoundly influenced by scarcity and violence. Baldwin's mother, after being forsaken by Baldwin's legitimate father, worked as a household servant and eventually wed David Baldwin, a preacher whose powerful influence on his stepson was evident not only in James Baldwin's composing but furthermore in his strong devout devotion. While still a teenager, Baldwin skilled a devout epiphany that commanded him to become a preacher, an know-how that Baldwin utilised as the basis for his most well known innovative, Go notify It on the hill (1952), and incorporated into his play The Amen Corner (1968) and much of his other writing. When Sonny's friend approaches the narrator to inform him of Sonny's plight, he encounters nothing but self-righteous piety“ (Walker 3).In this passage of Walker's critique in which he discusses the scene between the narrator and an old friend of the narrator's brother (Baldwin 38), Walker strongly pushes what seems to be an unfounded insistence that the narrator's negative attitude toward certain characters in the story are wholly based on a sense of piety experienced by Baldwin during his Pentecostal youth.

Baldwin's devout fervor had its complications. He had a tough connection with his stepfather, and while assisting De Witt Clinton High School in the Bronx, he increased to accept his homosexuality, farther perplexing his role in the church. At De Witt Clinton, Baldwin stood out for his literary gifts and ambition. He started expending his replacement time in Greenwich Village, the heart of the post-World conflict II creative community. There, he contacted Richard Wright, who had currently established himself as an author. Wright assisted Baldwin win a fellowship to work on his first novel, which went unpublished. (Walker 12)

Baldwin turned in the direction of scholarly condemnation as he laboured to make a vocation for himself as a writer.
