There are many career options in the area of Finance, however three of the main position areas are: Banking, Insurance, and Securities and Commodities. Other areas include: Real Estate, Corporate Financial Management, Risk Management, Personal Financial Planning, and Marketing. These are some general areas where career opportunities can be found with a degree in Finance. Many positions in Finance deal with funds and cost analysis, investments, and the formulating of credit. More specific career opportunities consist of financial management in manufacturing and distributing firms, commercial bank management, savings and loan management, stock brokerage, commercial bank management, and trust management. There are many different areas of employment that can be attained with a degree in Finance. Common employers of those with a degree in Finance are: banks, financial planning organizations, insurance companies, and real estate brokers.

A degree in Finance would also aid the owner of the degree in knowledge of he/she's own personal financial investments. Having this knowledge in the area of Finance could only help a person handle he/she's own financial issues. A bachelor's degree in Finance is seen as essential in order to obtain the higher career positions. A bachelor's degree also serves as a strong foundation for graduate study in Business and even the field of Law. Earning an MBA in the area of Finance would benefit the student in obtaining the highest career positions. Many employers also give their newly hired employees additional training.

The current outlook for the area of Finance can vary between the specific positions, but is good overall. Banking is expected to grow very slowly in the future, due to banks becoming much more automated and using the internet more. However, Securities is expected to grow 40% due to more people investing in the stock market and seeking financial advice. Overall, the outlook of Finance is good because firms are becoming more competitive and are concerned more with financial matters. Job opportunities are expected to only increase in the future. Typical starting salaries under Finance fall generally between $40,000 - $50,000. These vary depending on what one's actual occupation is under the area of Finance. There are also some student organizations which one can become involved. These organizations include: Undergraduate Financial Association, Buckeye Capital Investors, and Undergraduate Business Student Forum. These organizations can help students find internships, meet professionals, and even post resumes. I look forward to using these organizations in the future when I'm trying to find an internship and just for general help in search for my career.
